Benefits of eating Seaweed

Thanks for visiting my blog again. I'm an IT engineer and most of the working hours I deal with a lot of computer servers and electronics. Even though during my daily job I'm exposed to radioactive and air pollution in the data centre, it does not stop me to take care of my health.

Nowadays, normal people like me are more likely to be more health conscious than high tech. Let's put aside information technology for the moment, let's talk about health food.

I love eating seaweed, it tastes good.  And let's see what are the benefits of eating this marine algae!

Below are the benefits of eating seaweed:-

1. Great for digest system.
Seaweed contains magnesium which help to flush excess fluid, as it is a natural diuretic that also reduce bloating. So good, in fact, that seaweed might soon be an ingredient in functional foods - to make white bread, for example, higher in fibre. It can strengthen gut mucus, slow down digestion and make food release its energy more slowly. It's also high in fibre. It increases the good bacteria in the gut. The enzymes in kombu, which you can add in dried form to soups and stews, help pre-digest pulses, which in turn reduce wind.

2. High in nutrients and low in calories.
Seaweed are great sources of calcium, iodine, folate and magnesium, while purple laver is especially rich in B vitamins.

3. Improve heart health.
The fibres from brown seaweed lowered blood pressure and reduced the risk of stroke in human predisposed to cardiovascular problems.  A 25-year study of the longest-lived population, the Okinawans, who have unfurry arteries, low cholesterol and low homocysteine (a heart-damaging chemical) levels, showed that sea vegetables were among the seven to 10 portions of fruit and vegetables they eat daily. So they're part of a package deal in Okinawa, making sea vegetables a valuable addition to the much-touted variety of vegetables and fruit we are told to eat for health.

4. Detoxing the body from radioactive.
A study from McGill University in Canada showed that seaweed was great for detoxing the body from the radioactive chemical strontium.

5. Help regulate hormone.
Seaweed is very high in lignans - these are plant substances that become phytoestrogens in the body, which help to block the chemical oestrogens that can predispose people to cancers such as breast cancer.

6. Combat depression and fatique.
Seaweed can also combat depression and fatigue through its high vitamin B1 content while aiding in cognitive functioning through the vitamin B12 it offers.

7. Maintain your blood pressure.
Seaweed helps to maintain blood pressure level through its high potassium content and controls cholesterol levels through taurine.

7. High in vitamin and minerals.
Seaweed contains essential fatty acids as well as multiple vitamins and it is particularly high in vitamins B12, C, D, E and K. Seaweed also contains many minerals, including potassium, selenium, calcium, iodine, nickel, bromine, chromium, copper, zinc, nitrogen, boron, sulfur, soluble fiber and more.
